They begin quietly with questions, uncertainty, and a small whisper from God: “Keep going.” When I reflect on where this journey started and where grace has carried me, I do so with humility and gratitude because none of it was guaranteed.

Within my family are many remarkable individuals educated, accomplished, purpose-driven, and gifted in ways that inspire me deeply. What I share now is not comparison nor elevation but a simple acknowledgment of the path entrusted to me, particularly within my direct maternal and paternal line.

Over time, doors opened that positioned me as the first in certain areas
The first to build a life overseas,
The first to write and publish books reaching international readership,
The first to blend ministry and mental health on global platforms,
The first to serve internationally as a faith leader, mental health expert, and advocate,
The first to create and own businesses overseas including a non-clinical healthcare company here in Columbus, Ohio,
And the first in my immediate lineage to step into roles of service as a counselor, ambassador, and community bridge-builder.

These roles weren’t planned; they unfolded. And each one came with both privilege and responsibility.

But beyond the platforms and titles, life continued shaping me in quiet ways:
As a son, molded by a praying mother and a resilient father.
As a brother, learning leadership through patience and grace.
As a husband, growing in partnership and shared purpose.
As a father, biological and spiritual guiding hearts entrusted to me.
As a pastor, walking with people through their valleys and victories.
As a mental health advocate, restoring dignity and emotional awareness.
As a writer, leaving footprints in words long after speech fades.
As a counselor, sitting with people in their most vulnerable moments.
And as an ambassador, representing hope, wellness, and transformation beyond borders.

There were seasons of silence, sacrifice, and uncertainty moments where the assignment felt heavier than the progress. Yet through every chapter, one truth remained:

Being the first is not a position it is stewardship.

Carl Jung once wrote,
“The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are.”

And becoming is still happening one step, one prayer, one assignment at a time.

So to anyone stepping into uncharted territory: walk humbly, walk wisely, and walk with faith. You are not breaking ground for yourself alone but for generations who will walk more freely because you dared to begin.

If you are navigating purpose, identity, transitions, leadership, or emotional weight, you do not have to walk alone.

For counseling, support, or mentoring, contact:
Dr. David Rex Orgen at 614-753-3925.

Written by Dr. David Rex Orgen, Best-Selling Author & International Mental Health Expert

Some journeys do not begin with applause or confidence.
